To fix this problem, run the tableau-server-obliterate script to clean up any left over remnants of the previous install attempt and then restart the computer. For more information, see the appropriate Microsoft documentation for your versions of Windows.Ī failed install attempt can leave the computer in a state that causes subsequent attempts to also fail with errors that don't seem directly related to a previous install attempt. If the result includes "x86" you are running a 32-bit prompt. If the result includes "64" ( AMD64 for example), the command prompt is a 64-bit prompt. To determine if you are running a 64-bit command prompt, type echo %processor_architecture% in your command window. If you run the script from a 32-bit command prompt, the script will not completely remove Tableau, and subsequent installations may fail. For example, run cmd.exe in the C:\Windows\System32 folder.

Important: You must run the tableau-server-obliterate script from a 64-bit command prompt. You must manually uninstall "System Center Endpoint Protection" before continuing with the installation/update, or change the command line parameters to ignore warnings if you are using the "/quiet" parameter. If you attempt to install Tableau Server and the install fails, any subsequent installation attempts are likely to fail unless you run the tableau-server-obliterate script to clean Tableau off the computer. #ERROR 0 RUNNING COMMAND SETUP EXE SOFTWARE#
What's strange about this is that the IPUs I did with 1607 ran without running into this issue, even though they did, or at least should, have the Endpoint Protection software installed: Warning: Found Dismissible Block for: "System Center Endpoint Protection". It reads as if the SCCM endpoint protection software is the issue. Hopefully there is a simple solution to this madness. Not really sure what is going on to cause this to happen and hoping someone here can help point me in the right direction. I've included below what I understand to be the offending entries in the smsts.log file. Nothing changes, even when trying the TS on a different machine.
#ERROR 0 RUNNING COMMAND SETUP EXE UPGRADE#
I've gone as far as creating a net-new TS and verified everything about the upgrade package as being correct (edition, architecture, language, product key). For the life of me I can't figure out what the issue is.
#ERROR 0 RUNNING COMMAND SETUP EXE CODE#
With 1809, the IPU task sequence keeps failing at the sequence step Upgrade Operating System with the error code of 0x80004005. With the 1607 image, I was able to perform the in-place upgrade but Software Center was broke. I've since got my hands on the 1809 ISO and uploaded it into SCCM, but now have a new problem on my hands. In a previous post here, I ran into issues with Software Center after performing the upgrade but chalked those issues up to deploying 1607 as that was all I had available for testing at that time. Part of this is to do in-place upgrades to the Win7 computers where possible, and as such I need a task sequence to get that done. Long story short, I've been working on a task sequence that will help expedite our effort to move off of Win7 in our office and get to Win10 by the end of the year. As a general rule, if someone has flair, they almost definitely know what they're talking about.
